Fish Fossil Quarry - dig in Wyoming

In July I went to Wyoming with members of the rock club that I belong to. Following are some pictures from one of the many places we went to. This is a Fossil Quarry in Wyoming, mostly fish fossils are at this site, but others as well. They charge $40.00 an hour per person to dig at this quarry, and it is not so easy. It was a good experience though.

Huge Crystal

Check out this Huge Crystal in my shop right now. It is approx. 28 Kilos. from Brazil. A little damage at the top, but gorgeous.

Wyoming Rock Dig - Star Crinoids

I went on a rock dig with members of my rock club - we met in Wyoming and this is one of the digs we went on. We drove out to this site with our tour guide and climbed up this rock Hill/Mtn. We collected Star Crinoids - look for the tiny stars on the rocks. These are tiny star looking fossils, along with some clams and other fossils were on the rocks. These were really cool, but we had to look out for the ticks, scorpions and also rattlesnakes. I saw ticks, another member saw scorpions, but no snakes thank goodness. I have some of these in my rock shop now, so much fun.

Cedar Ponds Rock Dig

In June I went with other members of our rock club and we went to Cedar ponds or Stubbs Hill as it is sometimes called. I was lucky enough to find a fabulous Red Jasper seam and we all took turns getting our share. I had two full buckets to lug back almost 2 miles in a bucket with wheels. As you can see I blew out the bottom of the bucket, this made it a very hard treck back to the car. I mostly had to drag the big green bucket as the two white buckets were stacked inside and mostly sitting on the wheels thru the broken out bottom. We even found some frogs on the trail up to the dig, I have a photo of one of them, along with other pictures from the Dig.

Fabulous Carvings by Thomas McPhee

These carvings are done by Thomas McPhee which is one of the top three leading stone/mineral carvers in the world today.
This carving is a profile done on quartz crystal. This one has no "mythological" story - it is a youth that captures both innocence and beauty. QUARTZ PROFILE measures 1 & 7/8th inches long and 2 & 1/8th inches wide.

A bit of information about Pan:

There are many ancient myths about Pan. One myth that may be used to illustrate several themes is the traditional Chinese creation myth. This is the myth of Pan-gu (also known as P'an-ku). There are written texts of this myth going back to the 6th century and there are parts of Southern China where the cult of P'an Ku still persists. The most common form of the myth is as follows : The first living thing was P'an Ku. He evolved inside a gigantic cosmic egg, which contained all the elements of the universe totally intermixed together. P'an Ku grew by about 10 feet each day. As he grew he separated the earth and the Sky within the egg. At the same time he gradually separated the many opposites in nature, male and female, wet and dry, light and dark, Yin and Yang. These were all originally totally commingled in the egg. While he grew he also created the first humans. After 18,000 years the egg hatched and P'an Ku died from the effort of creation. From his eyes the sun and moon appeared, from his sweat, rain and dew, from his voice, thunder, and from his body all the natural features of the earth arose.
